PITTSBURGH — The Tree of Life announced today that Amy Spitalnick and Daniel Greene are joining its Academic Advisory Council. As members of the Council, Spitalnick and Greene will play an integral role in advising on matters related to the organization’s mission to establish the first-ever museum in the United States dedicated to exploring the historical roots and modern manifestations of antisemitism.

Spitalnick, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, is a nationally recognized leader in the fight against extremism, antisemitism, and hate. Previously, as the executive director of Integrity First for America, she led the successful lawsuit against the neo-Nazis, extremists and hate groups behind the 2017 Charlottesville violence. Spitalnick brings invaluable insights into addressing modern manifestations of hate and intolerance and protecting democracy through her leadership in advocacy and public policy.

Greene, adjunct professor of history at Northwestern University and historian at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, is an accomplished educator and museum professional whose work has significantly improved public understanding of the Holocaust and antisemitism.

“Both Amy’s and Daniel’s lifelong commitment to education and their perspectives and experiences in addressing antisemitism and identity-based hate will enhance our efforts to create a transformative space that inspires change,” said Carole Zawatsky, CEO of The Tree of Life.

Spitalnick and Greene join a distinguished group of scholars, public intellectuals, and diplomats, with representatives from leading institutions such as the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. The Council’s work ensures that The Tree of Life’s educational initiatives are informed by the highest standards of scholarship and a commitment to justice.

“As we work to reimagine The Tree of Life, Amy and Daniel’s leadership and expertise will help us fulfill our vision of a locally rooted institution with national impact,” said Michael Bernstein, chair of The Tree of Life Board. “Their guidance will be instrumental in building a future that honors our past while confronting the hate that continues to threaten our communities today.”
